SENIOR PREP DEPARTMENTS (GRADES 4-7)

St Peter’s School has specialist teachers in all major subjects so pupils are assured to have the best quality teaching. We benchmark our academic progress with top South African schools as well as writing benchmark exams in major subjects. Class teaching is used mainly in Grade 4 and thereafter, pupils are exposed mostly to subject teaching by our dedicated team of teachers. Commitment and hard work define all that happens at St Peter’, and the school ensures that our pupils get the very best education on offer.

EDUCATIONAL TOURS

The senior prep pupils go on the following educational tours during the third term:

The Grade 4 pupils go to Badplass (2 nights)

The Grade 5 pupils go to Seula Zimbili on the KwaZulu Natal North Coast  including Ushaka Marine World (4 nights)

The Grade 6 pupils go to Moholoholo Mountain View (Escarpment Tour) including Swadini and Manoutsa Park (4 nights)

Grade 7 pupils on their their educational tour during the second of the year and they spend 4 nights at Tshukudu near Hoedspruit.

 

 

ASSESSMENT

Continuous assessment is used throughout the school, and pupils from Grade 4 to 7 do formal assessments are done in the form of cycle tests. The Grade 6 and 7 pupils write an exam at the end of the year. Reports are handed out termly and, through these, areas of progress, concern and recommendations for improvement are highlighted.

 

ACADEMIC COLOURS

In order to motivate, encourage and reward pupils for their academic success, the school issues a number of certificates throughout the year including certificates of progress, achievement and excellence.

Grade 6 and 7 pupils who achieve an average of over 75% for two consecutive terms are awarded Half Academic Colours at the end of the second term.  Pupils who achieve an average of over 75% for three consecutive terms are awarded Full Academic Colours at the end of the third term. These Colours are awarded in the form of a scroll which is sewn onto the pupil’s blazer.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

School Production and Art Exhibition

Every alternate year the school puts on a well staged production involving many pupils in
the senior prep. Every other year, all our pupils are involved creatively; producing art and
craft for the school’s Art Exhibition.  The exhibition has proved to be a success and the
wider community is invited to attend the opening evening.

CLUBS

A number of different clubs are offered to pupils throughout the year.  Some of these clubs include: arts and crafts, games, chess, book club, knitting, aerobics, self defence, dancing, etiquette, photography, gardening, card making, school magazine, soccer and cricket

NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL ASSESSMENTS

St Peter’s School participates in a number of national assessments including Conquesta, Eisteddfod and the ABSA World Knowledge Olympiad. Our pupils do very well in these assessments, and we are proud of our benchmarking standards which, so far, have been retained year after year.
